Herbalism rooted in attention and discernment

Herbalism is both a practical discipline and a way of paying attention—to our bodies, the plants around us, and the seasons that shape our lives. At Ravenstar Herbals, I bring careful study and a lifelong love of the living world into the same conversation.

There is room here for research, traditional knowledge, and meaningful personal practice. There is also a commitment to being clear about the difference: what evidence supports, what history records, and what we explore through story, relationship, or ritual.

I’m Nichole, the person behind Ravenstar Herbals

My relationship with plants began long before I knew to call it herbalism. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of gardening with my Papa and taking nature walks with my Nana—gathering flowers to make “perfumes and potions,” then leaving them in water overnight to discover their scent.

When I found herbalism later in life, it gave that early curiosity a direction. I immersed myself in learning, finding inspiration in Rosemary Gladstar’s work and deepening my study through Matthew Wood’s teachings. Plants became something to study closely as well as love: their preparations, histories, relationships, and the care needed to work with them responsibly.

Ravenstar Herbals brings those threads together. Through herbal education, consultations, and seasonal practice, I offer a place for practical learning without losing the sense of wonder that first drew me to plants. My intention is to make the work understandable, thoughtful, and useful in everyday life—not another set of rules you have to get right.

Training is a practice, not a finished identity

My herbal education has included study through Matthew Wood’s programs, alongside the influence of Rosemary Gladstar’s writing and teachings. These are important threads in my learning, not a substitute for continuing to ask questions, examine sources, and recognize the limits of what I know.

At Ravenstar, that commitment means considering research alongside historical and traditional use, explaining uncertainty, and taking safety seriously. It also means distinguishing practical herbal education from the optional spiritual and reflective elements of the work. I offer education and non-medical wellness support. I do not diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, or replace the care of regulated healthcare professionals. Knowing when to refer is part of responsible practice.

Four Commitments Guide The Work

The first roots — Gardens and small discoveries

Different kinds of knowledge are labelled clearly. Limits, uncertainty, and disagreement are not hidden.

Consent

Clients and learners can ask questions, decline suggestions, adapt practices, and make decisions without pressure.

Resiprocity

Plant practice includes attention to sourcing, ecology, labour, cultural context, and the communities that carry knowledge.

Scope

Responsible practice includes referral. Ravenstar does not claim to replace medical, mental-health, legal, hospice, funeral, cultural, or spiritual professionals.

A Practice Shaped Over Time

Clarity

Gardening with my Papa, walking with my Nana, and making flower-water “potions” were early ways of exploring the living world through attention, scent, and curiosity.

Finding Herbalism — Curiosity becomes study

Clients and learners can ask questions, decline suggestions, adapt practices, and make decisions without pressure.

Ravenstar — Bringing the threads together

Ravenstar is where practical herbal learning, seasonal observation, and meaningful plant relationship meet. It is a place to share knowledge with care and make room for both useful questions and personal discovery.

Now — A practice that keeps growing

The work continues through study, writing, teaching, and paying attention. My aim is not to have a final answer for every question, but to keep building a practice that is clearer, more thoughtful, and responsive to what I learn.
